Roy Schmidt’s Fake Democrat Withdraws, But Serious Legal Questions Remain

LANSING – While Roy Schmidt’s fake Democrat Matt Mojzak has withdrawn from the race, serious legal questions remain. Today, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer sent letters to Attorney General Bill Schuette and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson calling for an immediate and thorough investigation of perjury and election fraud. The letters are attached.

“Mojzak’s withdrawal just proves that he was a fake Democrat and it’s obvious the cover-up of Roy Schmidt’s fake Democratic candidate has begun,” said Brewer. “It’s ironic that this cover-up is taking place on the anniversary of the beginning of the Watergate hearings. The voters deserve to know who exactly was involved in this plot, when it began, and why felonies were committed. These illegal conspirators must be brought to justice swiftly.”

Mojzak’s affidavit of three lies demonstrates that he was a Republican plant with the sole intention of clearing an easy path to reelection for Schmidt. The three lies in the affidavit include:

• Mojzak claiming he’s a Democrat.
• Mojzak claiming he’s registered to vote in the 76th district while his home and registration are in the 88th district.
• Mojzak claiming he’s been a resident of Kent County for 22 years when he’s been living in Ottawa County.

“There are many serious questions that need to be answered,” continued Brewer. “Who recruited this fake Democrat? Who prepared his affidavit? Who filed both Mojzak’s and Schmidt’s affidavits? Who is Raymond Venezia, the man who notarized Mojzak’s affidavit?”

“Schuette and Johnson need to investigate this obvious evidence of perjury and election fraud,” Brewer said. “They demanded the so-called fake Tea Party in Oakland County be held accountable and they should be just as adamant about this fake Democrat. Will Schuette and Johnson use their resources to investigate and bring to justice whomever is involved including House Speaker Jase Bolger and Representatives Pete Lund and Roy Schmidt? The voters deserved to know.”

You may have heard about the Michigan 2020 Plan, an exciting proposal to provide Michigan students with the opportunity to have their college tuition paid for. While the Senate Dems feel that the Plan can and should be supported by all members of the legislature, it’s especially important that we generate support throughout Kent County and all of Michigan, and let your voices be heard.

For this reason, the Senate Dems have introduced the #mi2020 Scholarship Competition, a contest that will provide one high school student with the benefits that could be received if the Michigan 2020 Plan were enacted – $10,000 toward their college education. In entering the #mi2020 Competition, students will submit a video that demonstrates why the 2020 Plan should be enacted. This will provide an opportunity to hear from those who will be impacted by the Michigan 2020 Plan the most.

To learn more, or to view and vote on the submitted videos, please visit:

Precinct Delegates — Grassroots of the Democratic Party

What is a precinct?
A precinct is the smallest political unit in the county, and all voters in a precinct vote at one location. The precinct is where elections are won and lost. It is your neighborhood. You know the people, and you know what issues are important to them.

What is a Precinct Delegate?
The role of a precinct delegate is one of the most important yet least understood of any elected office. It is the active precinct delegate who wins elections for the Democratic Party. Precinct delegates are elected directly by the voters of each precinct to serve as a bridge between voters and the Democratic Party in your neighborhood and you represent your neighborhood at Democratic Party meetings.

What do Precinct Delegates do?
· Help Democrats register to vote.
· Take information on issues and candidates to the voters in your precinct.
· Identify other democrats, and recruit new Party members.
· Help turn out the Democratic vote in your neighborhood on Election Day.
· Keep Democratic leaders informed about the issues that concern voters.
· Attend and vote at Democratic Party conventions.

How are Precinct Delegates elected?
Precinct delegates are elected in the Democratic primary every 2 years in August. Only Democratic voters choose Democratic precinct delegates.

Precinct delegate candidates file a notarized Affidavit of Identity to get on the ballot. A precinct delegate candidate can file with the clerk of their county, city, or township of residence. The filing deadline for precinct delegate candidates falls on the twelfth Tuesday prior to the August primary. A precinct delegate can be elected with just one vote.

The Kent County Democratic Party is here to help. Let us know if you need information or assistance. By working together we can deliver Michigan for the Democratic ticket.

Don’t sit on the sidelines — run for Precinct Delegate and be a part of the political solution.

The deadline to file to be a precinct delgate is 4pm Tuesday, May 15th. You must file at your city, township or county clerk. Call Democratic HQ for more information @ 616-406-1573

I talked with her Saturday in a restaurant near her home, four weeks to the day after George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated community in Sanford, Fla., shot Trayvon in the chest and killed him. Trayvon was unarmed, carrying nothing more than candy and a drink.

Florida’s now-infamous Stand Your Ground law, which lets you shoot someone you consider threatening without facing arrest, let alone prosecution, sounds crazy — and it is. And it’s tempting to dismiss this law as the work of ignorant yahoos. But similar laws have been pushed across the nation, not by ignorant yahoos but by big corporations.

Specifically, language virtually identical to Florida’s law is featured in a template supplied to legislators in other states by the American Legislative Exchange Council, a corporate-backed organization that has managed to keep a low profile even as it exerts vast influence (only recently, thanks to yeoman work by the Center for Media and Democracy, has a clear picture of ALEC’s activities emerged). And if there is any silver lining to Trayvon Martin’s killing, it is that it might finally place a spotlight on what ALEC is doing to our society — and our democracy.

What is ALEC? Despite claims that it’s nonpartisan, it’s very much a movement-conservative organization, funded by the usual suspects: the Kochs, Exxon Mobil, and so on. Unlike other such groups, however, it doesn’t just influence laws, it literally writes them, supplying fully drafted bills to state legislators. In Virginia, for example, more than 50 ALEC-written bills have been introduced, many almost word for word. And these bills often become law.
