Message from the new KCDP Chairperson

Jim Winslow, Chair

Jim Winslow

Hello Fellow Democrats.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Jim Winslow. I am the new chairperson of the Kent County Democratic Party. I am a proud lifelong Democrat. I became active with the party when Michael Johnston asked me to be his campaign manager for his bid for County Commission. As chair, I intend to focus on one thing and one thing only – ELECTING DEMOCRATS! No distractions, no other agenda.

I spent most of my career as an affordable housing advocate focusing on ending homelessness. I am retired from the Kent County Community Development Department. I have led other organizations including the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness and the Grand Rapids Area Coalition to End Homelessness. I was the founder and first Executive Director of Home Repair Services, a not-for-profit housing corporation, and co-founder and Executive Director of Advocates for Conserving Energy. Before entering affordable housing, I was a boycott organizer for the United Farmworkers and community organizer. I enjoy carpentry and am currently reconstructing an abandoned house in the Aberdeen neighborhood of Grand Rapids.

I like kayaking, bicycling and riding motorcycles. Any other biker Dems out there? I look forward to serving during this important election year. It is an honor to stand side-by-side with fellow Democrats. Remember – It’s pretty simple. If we don’t elect Democrats, they elect Republicans. — Jim
